A Child-Centered Program
Children who attend Extended Day find a
home-like atmosphere where they can curl
up with a book, play with friends, join a
sing-along, explore the outdoor areas,
tell or listen to stories, or simply
relax for a while.
The Extended Day room is located in the
Library Learning Center.
Resourceful Teachers
Extended Day teachers serve the school in
various capacities, working in classrooms
mid-day as Teaching Assistants,
supervising the outdoor areas, and
working in the Student Coordinator's
office. They bring a wealth of knowledge,
experience and dedication to the program,
providing an environment that is
responsive to the interests of children.
Ages Served
The Extended Day program serves only
school-age children (5-through
12-year-olds). Attendance by
four-year-olds must be arranged through
consultation with the Assistant Head of
School and the classroom teacher. The
Department of Social and Health Services,
the agency that licenses our Extended Day
program, has requirements that affect the
placement of preschool children with
school-age children in Extended Day.
Program Hours
Extended Day hours are 7:30 - 8:45 AM and
3:00 - 6:00 PM. The program closes
promptly at 6:00 PM. A late fee will
apply for any pick-ups after closing.
How Fees are Determined
Parents needing care for their child(ren)
on a regular, predictable basis
throughout the year may request an
Extended Day Contract. Fees are figured
on a monthly basis by the number of
days/weeks reserved. The rate varies each
month to accommodate school breaks.
Drop-in Extended Day care can be arranged
on a space-available basis and is charged
at a flat rate for afternoon.
Licensing and Supervision
The Extended Day Program at The Little
School is licensed by the State of
Washington's Department of Social and
Health Services. It is supervised by the
Assistant Head of School.
