Volunteers are essential to The Little School. Not only is the sharing of time and skills a wonderful way to support the school, but it also helps build a stronger, more connected TLS community. Current families are asked to indicate their volunteer preferences during the summer registration process, but if you are a member of our current or alum community and would like to get involved, we'd love to have your support. A few of the opportunities are listed below. To get involved or to get more details, contact Becky Dolan.
Staff Meeting Snacks – Tuesdays
One of the ways we show our appreciation for the hard work that our teachers and staff do is to provide snacks for their weekly meetings. You can sign up to provide snacks for one or more of these meetings. Snacks can be delivered to the LLC Lounge any time before 3:15 p.m. on Tuesdays.
Ice Cream Social – September
Help start the school year right with a scoop of ice cream and lots of friends out on the Big Field. Volunteers are needed for setup and cleanup of the event, and alums are asked to come back and do the scooping.
Fall Celebration – October
A crisp autumn afternoon is the perfect time to celebrate with cider pressing and pumpkin carving. Help with setup and cleanup of this event is needed.
Heritage Festival – November
This all-community celebration honors our diversity and rich cultural heritage. Volunteers are needed to help plan and manage the event. Assistance with setup and cleanup is also needed.
Admissions Coffee – March
At admissions coffees, prospective parents are invited on campus to learn more about the program, meet faculty and staff and ask questions. Volunteers are needed to attend and provide a parent perspective, and also to provide refreshments.
Auction & Gala – March
The annual auction is a fun evening event which includes a cocktail reception, silent and live auctions, sit‐down dinner and class projects. Volunteers are needed to procure items for the auction, create graphics, manage class projects, procure desserts for the dessert dash, and assist on the day of the event. Alums who are not old enough to attend are asked to assist with the evening event.
Art Festival – May
This is an all‐community event to celebrate children’s art, with a kids craft fair and art exhibit. Volunteers are needed for the planning committee, assist with setup the day before, assist during the festival and cleanup after.
Year-End Picnic – June
During the last week of classes, the school hosts a potluck picnic for all families. Volunteers are needed to plan this event, setup before, assist during, and cleanup after.
Library – ongoing
There are lots of things that need to be done to keep the library running smoothly. Volunteers shelve books that have been returned, put plastic covers on new books, do minor repairs on books, make boring (but mindlessly soothing...) technical adjustments to the catalog, and various other jobs that come up. We train, no strain is our motto. No prior experience or skills needed.
Administration Office – ongoing
The admissions office is busy throughout the year, recruiting prospective students. Volunteers are needed to help put together admissions materials.
Family Events – periodic
The Parent Association sponsors several family events throughout the year. Let us know if you would like to be involved in the planning of one or more of these events, or have an idea for a new event.
Faculty Luncheons – periodic
Several times throughout the year, the Parent Association (which includes all parents) provides a luncheon for the faculty to show our appreciation. You can help by providing food, setting up the room for the luncheon, or cleaning up afterwards.
Photography – periodic
The development office photographs school events for possible inclusion on the website and other school materials. Volunteers can help document these events from different perspectives.
