What Kind of Students Do Well at The Little School?

Students who thrive at our school:

  • Maintain a sense of wonder and curiosity about the world and have their own unique interests and passions.

  • Are considerate and respectful in their interactions with others.

  • Develop trusting relationships with adults and respect legitimate authority.

  • Are able to sustain independent pursuits, work collaboratively with a group of peers and participate constructively in the classroom community. Enjoy learning for its own sake.

  • Challenge themselves and learn from their mistakes.

  • Assume responsibility for their own actions and can be flexible in response to information from others.

  • Are able to be self-directed, practice self-control and make thoughtful choices.

  • Assume increasing autonomy and responsibility for their own learning.

There are developmental differences between the youngest and oldest students in our school and younger students may need time to fully grow into these qualities. In addition, students who do well at The Little School have parents who:

  • Learn about, understand and support the school’s educational philosophy and mission.

  • Convey to their children trust and respect for the school.

  • Support their child’s classroom experience by attending parent meetings and conferences, reading newsletters and flyers, and establishing open communication with the teacher.

  • Are involved in the greater life of the school.

  • Interact with others in the community with sensitivity to family, economic and cultural differences.

  • Practice direct communication and use the school’s established channels of authority and decision-making.
