Alumni Association Board

Alumni Association Board (AAB)

The Little School Alumni Association Board supports both the alumni community and the overall TLS mission by facilitating communication between and among alumni students, alumni parents and guardians, former and current faculty and staff, and The Little School Board of Trustees. We organize and promote events by and for alumni, provide volunteer and networking opportunities, elevate alumni voices within the larger TLS community, and help maintain The Little School’s history.

All former students, parents and guardians, and faculty of The Little school are members of the Alumni Association by default.

We are actively looking for board members, officers, ambassadors for former outgrowing classes, and volunteers for both short and long term positions. Contact us at tls-alums@thelittleschool.org for more information.

Whatever your level of interest, please reach out to us! There is nothing we love more than hearing how our alumni are doing. You will always hold a special place in the TLS community.

2025-26 Alumni Association Board

Fiona Ayres '19
Chair

Fiona is an alumni and a proud volunteer for the TLS community. This year she is a freshman at the University of Washington through the Robinson Center, a program that allowed her to enter college at 16 years old! One of her favorite memories at TLS was being a student helper in the art room—organizing projects, setting up stations, and creating art! Last year, she came back to help the current art classes. You may have also seen her volunteering around campus and at the auction. This year, she is excited to continue reconnecting to TLS as a member of the AAB.

Ryan Amini '21
Co-Secretary

An alum of The Little School, Ryan attended from Kindergarten through 2nd grade and is now in high school. He enjoys playing soccer and is a member of his high school team. Some of his favorite TLS memories were the school festivals. He can still remember Peter the principal cooking hotdogs, the face painting, and walking through the art gallery filled with each child's artistic creations. Those moments of joy and community have stayed with him, and as a member of the Alumni Association Board, he hopes to help create and celebrate the same kind of lasting memories for every fellow alum.

Cameron Amini '19
Co-Secretary

Cameron attended The Little School from Kindergarten through 4th grade and is now a senior at Issaquah High School. One of his favorite memories from TLS was the environmental education classes, where they hiked through the woods and explored the incredible nature of the Pacific Northwest. Last summer, Cameron returned to TLS as a summer camp counselor, helping create new experiences for younger students. Being back on campus reminded him of the joy and curiosity that TLS inspires. He's excited to stay connected through the Alumni Association and looks forward to preserving the spirit of The Little School and creating new memories alongside fellow alums.

Sarah Gallien '94
Member at Large

Sarah Gallien outgrew TLS in 1994 and is a proud parent of a current Little School student and alumnus. A writer and former educator, Sarah is interested in, and driven by, the role of divergent thinkers and creative work as it relates to the interplay between individual and societal innovation and development. When not connecting people and projects, you can find them writing, studying, enjoying art, out in nature with the family, or (likely) reading—trying to invoke the feeling of sitting up by the skylight with a book, at the top of the “tree” (building support) of a Woods building classroom when they were eleven.

Diego Wright ’17
Member at Large

A alumnus himself, Diego attended TLS from K-5th grade and served as an Intern of Finance and Operations in the business office. He’s now at the University of Washington and remains an avid soccer player too. His favorite memory from his time at The Little School has to be celebrating the collection of the first 100,000 bread tabs. The vivid memories of pouring gigantic plastic bags filled with bread tabs in a bin twice the size of any student plus the enormous cheer once our teacher Joyce had called “100,000!” was unforgettable to say the least. On the Alumni Association Board, Diego strives to rekindle the same unique memories and experiences The Little School has to offer for every fellow alum.

Gautam Trehan '23
Member at Large

Gautam outgrew The Little School in 2023 and is now attending Seattle Academy of Arts and Sciences, where they enjoy playing tenor sax in their school's jazz band. Gautam attended The Little School from Pre-K until 5th grade and enjoyed every day they spent there. They remember traveling through the woods and imagining themselves as various characters, ranging from dragons to paleontologists to Harry Potter. They value how TLS brings together imaginative play with real-world experiences and is excited to contribute to the Alumni Association Board.

Connor Nolan '07
Member at Large

As a proud alumnus, the values and lessons that Connor learned at TLS have been foundational to his passion for education. He believes building meaningful relationships within our community is important to creating a safe, educational and fun learning environment. Upon graduating with a Master's in the Art of Teaching in 2021 from Colorado College, he spent time working in formal and informal education at primary, secondary and undergraduate levels in various multicultural contexts. Most of that work was done as the Education Director for a non-profit environmental education center in Woodland Park, Colorado. Recently back in Washington State, he is excited to be home at The Little School and a member of the Alumni Association Board. In his free time, Connor enjoys spending time with his dog, eating good food with friends or exploring new places. He is thrilled to be a part of the innovative and meaningful work being done at TLS. Connor says, "If we don't know each other yet—I can't wait to get to know you!"

Jules Hetland
Member at Large

Committed to researching and preserving The Little School's history, Jules continues to actively foster lasting connections with alums and contribute to campus maintainence. Jules has over 30 years of experience working with children of all ages, as a nanny, a preschool teacher and teaching assistant. As a child in the military and throughout her collegiate years, Jules traveled extensively throughout Europe and the U.S. Her master’s degree in environmental science was directly based in the experiential education model. Jules is most passionate about experiential education in which educators purposefully engage with learners in direct experience and focused reflection in order to increase knowledge, develop skills, clarify values and develop the capacity to contribute to the whole community.
