Governor Inslee's Order

Monday, April 6, 2020

Hi TLS Families,

Today, Governor Inslee announced that Washington schools will remain closed for the rest of the school year. It is heartbreaking news. I am saddened, but determined and inspired by the many stories of effort and care in our community. All afternoon, faculty have been writing to share their disappointment but also their readiness to jump in and continue to creatively and responsively evolve our Connected Learning program. The TLS community will stay strong, united and joyful. It’s what we do.

I know you are probably feeling a whole host of emotions right now as well. I hope as you digest this news, you join us in acknowledging disappointment while engaging your sense of unity and partnership. This moment in history is part of your children’s life story now. It is a moment that is growing in complexity and also in richness. Your children are learning to face adversity and uncertainty which will bring them strength for the rest of their lives. This will be a story that influences their sense of gratitude, belonging, connection, community and family. We are honored to be a part of it.

We can do this. Here is a short video message for your child:

and a short message for you if you just need to hear we’re with you:

We’re right here.

On Thursday at noon, I will open a gathering on Zoom for families that want to connect, ask questions or check in. I will send the link as well as more information about how we will navigate the weeks ahead on Wednesday.

In the meantime, thank you for helping us help society. Breathe in the sun and please be well.
