Student-led Election: Name the New Building
Hello TLS community,
The new building at The Little School is close to being finished. It's time for it to join the Meadows, Woods and Cedars buildings with a name all its own. The 4th and 5th grade students in the Cedars Building have been hard at work to design and implement our election.
Students have spent time learning about different types of elections and carried out several scenarios to explore direct democracy, consensus and ranked choice voting systems. They’ve considered inclusion in voting, studying what groups of people have been excluded in our country’s history and the people who have fought for their right to vote. In this study, they’ve also looked at marketing and campaign visuals, and learned about the history of Civil Rights era songs and how music can unite people around a cause.
The name will be chosen from a list generated last school year. Please take a look at these resources, created by our 4th and 5th grade students, and then complete your ballot.
- Voters’ Pamphlet: This booklet lists all the building name candidates, along with persuasive writing pieces for each candidate.
- Lyrics to voting song and jingles
- Digital Ballot: Cast your vote! Directions for the digital ballot are provided after the link. (Please note: Voting with the digital ballot is for Connected Learning students, alumni, all parents, TLS staff working from home and board members. If a person is physically on campus, they will vote with a paper ballot).
We are so excited to gather input from the whole Little School community. Thanks for your help! You have until the evening Wednesday, November 18 to make sure your vote is counted.
